Summer Fun and Back-to-School!

Join us in looking back at the fun summer camp we had this year! We had a great time mixing up our Squash on Track students with the Squash Zone campers as well as some fun classroom activities. We had counselors Neel Rangan and Rianne Liu write summer camp summaries!

We’re also excited to have just started the new school year and welcome some new faces.

Summer Squash from Neel Rangan:

“This summer, I had the pleasure of taking on the role of a counselor, working closely with the enthusiastic kids from Squash on Track. Throughout the week, our focus was to teach them a variety of shots, engaging game practices, and a mini-course on how to referee a squash game. Each morning, we began with energizing warm-ups, setting the tone for a series of engaging drills. We spent around an hour and a half refining these drills before seamlessly transitioning to immersive conditioning games.

These games were carefully designed to target specific skills while also letting them practice their strategic gameplay. After an invigorating thirty-minute session of conditioning gameplay, we shifted gears to dynamic fitness circuits aimed at enhancing overall physical conditioning—a regimen that continued until lunchtime. Following a well-deserved lunch break, the kids made their way to the classroom, ready to embark on the next part of the camp day.”

Summer Camp Activities from Rianne Lui:

“Juan, Pablo, Jose-Luis, Liam, and Issac all enjoyed lots of fun-filled, educational, and artistic activities this summer. Every day, the kids got to spend time creating their own picture books thanks to our friends at the Palo Alto Arts Center, and a special shout out to Cathy!

Our first activity; DIY spoon catapults, launching us into a great week! Then, testing the kids’ survival skills, they teamed up to build impenetrable shelters out of cardboard. After all that hard work, we enjoyed a well-deserved day making homemade ice cream.

Next up! an informational session all about the importance of credit and debit. We finished the week strong with a tournament showcasing all the new skills they learned with our wonderful volunteer coaches and Richard!”

Welcome Steven!

We are excited to welcome Steven Friedland to the Squash on Track team as our interim Academic Coordinator!

Steven graduated from Central Washington University with 2 teaching degrees in Elementary Education (K-8) and in Middle-Level Science (6-8). He has also earned his US Squash coaching Level 2 qualification, and has been fortunate to have coached squash for 10 years before getting his teaching degrees. At Squash on Track, Steven’s goal is for the students to gain and learn the confidence in their own ability to understand and comprehend the material or task that they are trying to achieve. Outside of squash Steven loves to play golf, spend time with friends and family, and cook.

Help Richard

Richard is participating in the Lighthouse Century in Morro bay on September 23rd to raise funds to grow SOT!

His goal is to raise $10,000 and is getting close (already at $8,000!)! With that being said, if you are willing to support Richard and sponsor his century, please donate here!

Your support would be greatly appreciated!

TRACK Star of the Month!

One of our newest additions to Squash on Track took the first TRACK Star of the Month by showing up excited to learn and respectful of others! We are looking forward to having her in our program and joining our community of other TRACK Stars!
